The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a call for evidence, seeking views on proposals to mandate solar canopy installations on new outdoor car parks (section 1), and on current planning policy and permitted development rights related to electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure (section 2). The call for evidence also explores opportunities to deploy solar canopies on existing car parks above a certain size, including those under public and private ownership. Subject to the evidence received, DESNZ may consider expanding the proposals in section 1 to include multi-storey and residential car parks. The call for evidence also invites suggestions on further government actions to increase solar canopy deployment on outdoor car parks, and on updates to planning and permitting processes to facilitate the installation of EV charging points. The call for evidence closes on 18 June 2025.
