Ancillary relief definition

What does Ancillary relief mean?

Applications for financial provision brought by one party to a marriage or civil partnership on divorce or dissolution whether for themselves or for any children of the family.

In respect of heterosexual (married) and homosexual (civil partners) couples applications are made under the relevant provisions of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 and the Civil Partnership Act 2004 respectively. Ancillary relief includes applications for maintenance, payments of lump sums, transfers of property and orders in relation to pensions.
