Overriding interest definition

What does Overriding interest mean?

An interest in land that continues to have effect despite the registration of a disposition.

The normal result of registration of a disposition of land is that unregistered interests in the land will no longer affect the land. Schedule 3 to the Land Registration Act 2002 provides for those unregistered interests that will override the registration of a disposition. The most important are leases of less than seven years and rights enjoyed by persons in actual occupation of the land.
